Katelyn Tuohy runs 9:09/4:14 For 3,000/1,500 Double at New York State Meet 2018 Recap

Katelyn Tuohy Dominates Distance Races in New York

It was another meet, another mind-boggling performance for Katelyn Tuohy. This past weekend at the New York State State Public High School Athletic Association Track and Field Championships, Tuohy was at it again.

At Cicero North Syracuse High, the North Rockland sophomore ran 9 minutes, 9.71 seconds in the 3,000 meters on Friday to set a national record for her age. She came back the next day and clocked 4:14.75 for a meet record. The previous meet record was held by Mary Cain (4:17.84) set in 2011.

"Her performance this weekend was one of the best that I've ever seen from a high school track athlete," North Rockland coach Kyle Murphy said in an interview with lohud.com. "She just knew this was the big time. This was the time to go and lay it all out and run as fast as she could."

Runner-up in the girls 3,000 was Saratoga Springs’ Kelsey Chmiel in 9:46.03.

Rush-Henrietta senior Lanae-Tava Thomas produced the fastest sprint times of the day for the girls, winning the 100 (11.74) and 200 (24.35).

Taft Educational Campus senior Carlon Hosten won the boys 100 (10.48) and 200 ( 21.31).

In the boys 1,600, Northport senior Elijah Claiborne clocked 4:10.01.

Saratoga Springs junior Shea Weilbaker claimed the boys 3,200 crown in 9:07.26.

In both the boys 1,600 and 3,200, wheelchair participant Westmoreland freshman JasonRobinson was able to compete clocking 4:00.98 and 8:25.35, respectively.

In the girls 110 hurdles, senior Sophia Myers of The Queens High School of Teaching, went13.86 in the D1 finals. She won the championship race, finishing in 13.96.

In the girls 4x800 relay, the team from Shenendehowa of Hannah Reale, Jade Dennis, JadaDennis and Olivia Lomascolo ran a U.S. No. 2 time of 8:55.04 to win.

On the boys side, St. Anthony’s 4x800 team of Mason Gatewood, Matthew Payamps, Michael Barbaro-Barnett and Brendan Dearie won in a photo finish time of 7:45.78, a current U.S. No. 10. Runner-up Northport (7:45.79) is U.S. No. 11.

Lancaster Central junior Jonathan Surdej won the shot put in 60-08.25.
