Oregon Relays Skips 2019 & 2020 Seasons Due to Hayward Field ConstructionPublished by
Oregon’s largest track and field meet focuses on 2021 return in new stadium EUGENE, Ore. - For more than a decade, the Oregon Relays has been a fixture on team schedules up and down the west coast. With more than 100 teams and nearly 2,000 athletes annually competing at Hayward Field, the showcase has become one of the nation’s premier track and field meets. After searching for a new facility to host the event during the renovation of Hayward Field, organizers have decided to pause the event for the 2019 & 2020 seasons. With the large number of expected athletes and fans, along with the overall presence of the event, it was determined no facility could match the magic of Hayward Field. “After much discussion and research we have decided to cancel the meet until Hayward Field construction concludes,” meet organizers Ross Krempley and Kayla Krempley said. “After 14 straight years of hosting the event at Hayward Field, we ultimately felt that this is a Hayward meet, and to try and replicate that anywhere else would not do it justice.” With Hayward Field construction currently set to be completed in 2020, the Oregon Relays staff hopes to resume competition in 2021.
