Stanford meet will take a one-year break Home football game with Arizona State results in scheduling conflict that forces cancellation of event; Invitational expected to resume in 2018 By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor The Stanford Invitational, which annually draws more than 3,000 high school and college cross country athletes to compete on the Stanford Golf Course, will not be held this fall because of a conflict with a Cardinal home football game Sept. 30 against Arizona State, according to meet director Jess Riden. The meet, first held in 1974, is scheduled to resume with its 44th edition in 2018. Stanford won the women’s competition and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo prevailed in the men’s race Oct. 1, with Great Oak sweeping both high school seeded titles.
