Sydney Thorvaldson Wins Triple - Wyoming State Meet Recap 2019

Thorvaldson sweeps 3A distance titles in Wyoming

Rawlins sophomore Sydney Thorvaldson rolled to three wins in the Class 3A meet at the state championships in Casper, Wyo. on Saturday. 

Thorvaldson and everyone else had to deal with steady rain that turned to light snow. 

Despite the conditions, Thorvaldson ran 2:17.03 in the 800, 5:00.52 in the 1,600 and 10:47.86 in the 3,200 meters, a race she won by a full minute.

In Class 4A, Wyatt Moore of Star Valley won the 100 meters (11.09), the 200 (22.32).

Sophomore Peter Visser, also from Star Valley, ran 9:30.08 to win the 3,200 meters and defeate 1,600 meters champion Mac Staryk from Jackson. Star Valley's Asefa Wetzel was second in the 800 and 1,600 and third in the 3,200. 

Tyrell Halladay from Evanston Senior won the 4A 800 meters in 1:59.82, anchored his team to a victories in the 4x400 relay (3:26.07) and sprint medley (3:35.13). He also placed third in the 400 meters.

Cheyenne East's Jefferson Danso popped a big jump of 48-0.50  to win the triple jump. 

Cody Milmine of Buffalo sped to 3A titles in the 100 (11.27) and 200 (22.35) and took second in the 400 (49.75). He also helped his team to third place in the sprint medley relay.  

Freshman Connor Micheli made a personal best clearance of 15-2 to win the 3A pole vault. 

In the girls 4A meet, Taylor Rowe of Kelly Walsh won the sprints, clocking 12.67 in the 100 finals and 25.98 in the 200 meters. Emmy Johnson of Laramie, who had run 12.28 in the 100 and 24.90 in the 200-meter prelims, finished second in the 200 and third in the 100. She won the 300-meter hurdles in 45.71. 

Sheridan senior Jordan Christensen swept the throws, taking the shot put with 43-9 and was second behind Kyla Bush of Central in the discus.

Favour Wanjoku from Rock Springs won the girls long jump with 18-10.25 and the triple jump with 39-3.50.

Mindy Russell from Wind River won the 2A titles in the 100 (12.73), 200 (26.18) and the 400 in a state-leading 56.34 seconds. Big Horn's Carson Bates led the team to a victory with wins in the 100, 200 and the sprint medley relay.

Cokeville, which won the 1A girls meet, scored 29 points in the 100-meter hurdles by placing first through fourth.  Kelli Holliday from Ten Sleep won the 400, 800 and 1,600. 

Kaden Dower of Western Heritage won the 1A boys 100 and 200 and placed fourth in the shot put.
