By Mary Albl of DyeStat

The legacy continues. Friday at the Mississippi State Track and Field Championships at Pearl High, the Clinton girls compiled an impressive 129 points to win the program's sixth straight Class 6A title.

"This group of girls didn't want to be the ones to break the streak," coach Jonathan Perkins told the Clarion Ledger.

Clinton senior Jayda Eckford won the 200 (23.70) and the 400 (55.02), while teammate Kiara Vance claimed the shot put and discus titles to secure 40 of the team's points.

Eighth grader Kennedi Sander of Madison Central won the 6A 100 title in 11.94.

Dylan Allen of Mooreville swept Class 4A titles in the the 3,200, 1,600 and 800, setting a class record in the 1,600 (4:33.77).

Mississippi State-bound Cameron Crump set a Class 2A record in the long jump (US#3 24-8.50) and added titles in the 100 (10.59w), 200 (21.57) and 400 (50.62) to make it four titles on the day.

The state meet concluded on Saturday with the 5A/3A/1A events, and possibly the best story line of the two-day event. Kenmarkis Meeks of the Mississippi School for the Deaf, won the 1A 110-meter hurdles, high jump and ran on the winning 4x100 relay. Read more about him here.

Dante Brown of Forest Hill won the 5A 100 and 200 dash titles (10.59/21.60).

It was a busy day for Center Hill's Camaryn McClelland as she won the triple jump (39-8.25), long jump (19-0.50) and the 100 hurdles (14.52) and 300 hurdles (45.11), helping guide her team to a 5A crown.

Eighth grader Brooklyn Biancamo of Long Beach won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 5A crowns.

In 3A action, Jesse Henderson of Yazoo County won the 110-and 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump. His time of 14.03 in the 110 hurdles was a new 3A meet record.
