Kenyan Men Sweep Podium at Frankfurt MarathonPublished by
Kebede Wins By Over One Minute in Women's RaceBy Scott Bush After a runner-up finish at the BMW Frankfurt Marathon in 2013, Mark Kiptoo (KEN) outkicked fellow countrymen Mike Kigen and Gilbert Yegon over the final stages of the race to take home the win on a cool and calm Sunday morning in Germany. 38-year old Kiptoo lost in last year's race by a mere second to Vincent Kipruto (KEN). With victory on his mind, Kiptoo ran a tenacious final 5k to cross the line first in 2:06:49. Kigen and Yegon finished second and third in 2:06:59 and 2:07:08. In the women's race, 25-year old Aberu Kebede (ETH) cruised to a decisive victory, finishing 1:23 ahead of her nearest competition, crossing the tape in 2:22:21. Kebede, a two-time Berlin Marathon winner who placed fifth at the Virgin Money London Marathon, picked up her first win in Frankfurt.
