Wariner runs world leader in Paris

Jeremy Wariner won the men's 400 meters in convincing fashion Friday at the Meeting Gaz de France Paris Saint-Denis, the fourth stop on the IAAF Golden League tour.

The reigning Olympic gold medalist and a two-time World Outdoor champion, Wariner and 2007 World Outdoor silver medalist LaShawn Merritt were neck and neck coming off the final curve, but Wariner kicked into overdrive down the final straight to win in a world-leading 44.86. Merritt took runner-up honors in 44.35.

U.S. Trials champion Shannon Rowbury finished as the runner-up in the women's 1,500m, running a personal best 4:00.33. No American woman has run faster in almost six years.

Two-time Olympic and World Outdoor silver medalist Terrence Trammell took runner-up in the men's 110-meter hurdles, running 13.19 to world record holder Dayron Robles' winning 12.88 (+0.5mps). Antwon Hicks took third in 13.27 and Aries Merritt was fifth in 13.41.

Reigning World champion Kerron Clement won the men's 400m hurdles in 48.33 with 2000 Olympic gold medalist Angelo Taylor finishing in third in 48.91 edging out 2005 World champion Bershawn Jackson, who was fourth in 48.92.

World-ranked #1 over 400m, Sanya Richards stepped down in distance and won the women's 200m by a lean, crossing the finish line in 22.56. Carmelita Jeter, the 2007 World Outdoor 100m bronze medalist, took second in 22.58 and 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials champion Muna Lee was third in 22.59. 2004 Olympian LaShaunte'a Moore was fourth in 22.70.

Reigning Olympic gold medalist Joanna Hayes was the runner-up in the women's 100m hurdles in 12.76. Training partner and 2008 Olympic Trials third-place finisher Dawn Harper was third in 12.79 and 2008 World Indoor silver medalist Candice Davis was fifth in 12.87.
