A firefighter best known for his work with the New York City marathon has died of cancer – and his family attributes his illness to time spent at the World Trade Center site after the 9/11 terror attacks. Vic Navarra, 55, died Sunday after a battle with sinus cancer. The former FDNY lieutenant coordinated the start of the New York City marathon for 25 years. Before that, he participated as an athlete until he was sidelined by injuries. After the September 11th attacks, Navarra volunteered to search for survivors at the World Trade Center site, even though he was retired.
