Gorriaran Runs Fast 300/600 Double At The Armory

A long, productive day of track and field at The Armory in New York concluded with one of its best races of the season in the boys sprint medley relay at the New Balance Games. 

Susan Wagner NY of Staten Island overtook Iona Prep at the finish line to win an exciting race as both anchors crossed in 3:34.02 for US#1 and US#2.

Michael Rodriguez-King anchored Susan Wagner with a 1:53.7 split to bring home the victory. 

In the largest meet staged at The Armory since the onset of the pandemic, more than 330 boys competed in the 300 meters. 

Joey Gant of Pennridge PA was that fastest of all of them, winning the event in 34.94 seconds for US#14. Gant also placed third in the 500. 

Sophia Gorriaran of Moses Brown RI won the girls 300 in 39.21 seconds, an improvement on her season's best and a time that moves her to US#9 in the event. She came back to win the 600 with a sensational time of 1:27.70, the ninth-fastest performance ever. She already ranks No. 2 all-time behind Athing Mu with her 2021 best of 1:27.02.

Bryce Tucker of Pennsauken NJ won the boys 600 in US#4 1:20.79. 

Myles Plummer from Union Catholic NJ ran to a meet record in the 1,000 meters with US#3 2:28.95. Also under the old meet record was Liam Going of Chaminade NY, who ran US#8 2:29.99. 

Kayla Schramm of Goshen Central NY won the girls 1,000 in 2:59.21. 

In the boys shot put, Gary Moore Jr. of Hillhouse CT broke the meet record by more than a foot with 62-7.75. Moore also won the weight throw with 71-5.50.

The Benjamin Cardozo NY girls of Queens lowered their US#1 in the shuttle hurdles relay with 35.22, using a lineup of Sierra Passee, Laniua Ruff, Antoinette Galloway and Brianna Lindo.

Penncrest PA won the boys shuttle hurdles in 33.49.

Brandon Robinson of Uniondale NY won the boys 500 meters in US#8 1:06.11. Ashley Bolesh from Westhill NY won the girls event in 1:17.53.

Christopher Serrao from East Brunswick NJ won the 55-meter hurdles in US#7 7.48.

Union Catholic's Ajanae Thompson won the girls 55 hurdles in US#7 8.23.

The Paul Robeson NY girls won the 4x200 in US#12 1:43.42. 

The Cornwall Central NY boys beat Cardinal Hayes NY to take the 4x200 in US#8 1:30.20. 

The Niskayuna NY boys (US#4 10:26.82) and Cornwall Central NY girls (US#5 12:30.70) won the invitational distance medley relays.
